Speaker Discovery and Device Management in WAM Bridge

Find Samsung WAM speakers on your LAN with SSDP, save device aliases with stable device IDs, and manage saved profiles in WAM Bridge.

WAM Bridge locates Samsung Wireless Audio Multiroom speakers on your local network using SSDP, and falls back to a direct port scan when older firmware does not respond to multicast. Once found, you can save a speaker under an alias so you never need to look up its IP address again.

Discover speakers#

Discovery sends repeated SSDP requests through each active IPv4 adapter. When a speaker has old firmware that stays silent to SSDP, WAM Bridge falls back to checking Samsung's API on port 55001 in nearby /24 networks.

Save a device alias#

Saving a speaker under a short alias stores the stable Samsung device_id alongside the current IP. If the speaker's DHCP lease changes, WAM Bridge searches the LAN for the same device_id and updates the stored IP automatically.

The foobar2000 component uses the same profile resolver, so any alias you save here works in foobar's configuration too.

Manage saved devices#

Use a device in commands#

Once saved, pass the alias with --device instead of specifying the IP each time:

When exactly one WAM speaker is discovered on the LAN, --speaker and --device can both be omitted and WAM Bridge uses that speaker automatically.

Note

Do not expose port 55001 or any WAM Bridge HTTP port to the internet. The Samsung control API and the local stream server are designed for LAN use only.
