Remote Control Commands for Samsung WAM Speakers

Control volume, playback state, and standby on your Samsung WAM speaker from the WAM Bridge CLI. Includes volume latency notes and hardware volume routing.

WAM Bridge lets you control a Samsung WAM speaker from the command line without starting a new playback session. Status queries, volume changes, mute, pause, play, stop, and standby all go through Samsung's port 55001 command API, which responds in about one second.

Status and volume#

The Shape M5 uses raw API volume steps 0 to 30. There is no model-aware percentage conversion yet. Step 3 is approximately 10%; step 30 is maximum.

Warning

Samsung URL playback (WAM Bridge streams) cannot be reliably resumed after a stop. If you stop a WAM Bridge stream, start a new playback session rather than using --play.

Hardware volume routing#

The CLI --set-volume command already targets the speaker directly. The hardware_volume setting controls the foobar2000 volume slider during WAM Bridge PCM playback.

With the default hardware_volume=0, slider changes stay in the PCM pipeline and therefore follow its latency. Set hardware_volume=1 to route the foobar slider to the speaker's port 55001 control path instead:

On the tested M5 that direct speaker path answers in about one second. Pause, stop, and skip still carry PCM pipeline latency; hardware_volume=1 only changes volume routing.

Foobar2000 WAM controls#

The installed foobar2000 component adds these menu items under Playback > WAM Bridge:

All commands run through a serialized control helper and report completion or errors in the foobar console. Start sleep timer uses the sleep_after_stop preference as its delay; during active playback it routes through the running PCM helper rather than opening a second control connection.

Tip

For responsive volume control during active WAM Bridge streaming, prefer hardware_volume=1. For pause, stop, and skip latency, the work-in-progress improvement is on the speaker's port 55001 command path rather than further shortening the audio pipeline.
